Alibaba interested in selling more Bangladeshi products abroad
Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba is interested in selling more Bangladeshi products to global markets_ which are produced by local small and medium enterprises of Bangladesh.
The global e-commerce giant proposed setting up a separate pavilion on its website for Bangladeshi goods.
The leading e-commerce company_ founded by Jack Ma and his fellows back in 1999_ expressed this interest in a letter to the Bangladesh Embassy in China on 10 May and asked for cooperation regarding the matter.
In an earlier meeting with embassy officials last month_ Alibaba discussed the issue. Afterwards_ Bangladesh Commercial Counselor in China Md Monsur Uddin informed Bangladesh Commerce Ministry of the matter.
"In collaboration with local partners like Tradeshi Limited_ we have created export opportunities for local SMEs in Bangladesh and helped them mobilize their exports_" Alibaba said in its letter.
To further promote Bangladeshi products_ the company wants to connect with different government departments like the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and other trade agencies.
It is also keen to connect with local e-commerce associations such as e-CAB and find B2B cross-border business entities as authorized partners to provide services in Bangladesh. Alibaba said that it would support local SMEs in finding new business opportunities around the world and help enable foreign buyers to source from the South Asian country.
Currently_ Alibaba has around 100 suppliers from Bangladesh selling goods on its website. Although it is still at an early stage_ there is great potential_ the company added.
