Bangladesh donates Tk 10mn to support Afghans through UN
The Bangladesh government will provide Tk 10 million to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) as humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan as the war-torn country struggles with acute food and other crises.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Bangladesh said on Sunday_ with the approval and direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina_ the Ministry has taken the necessary steps to transfer the money to the UN OCHA fund.
The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York will send the money on behalf of the government of Bangladesh_ to a special fund formed for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
The move is a reflection of Bangladesh s policies of regional amity_ combined development of South Asian nations and assistance towards everyone undertaken by the prime minister_ the statement by MoFA added.
Afghanistan has been facing a deep social and political turmoil after the Taliban took over the regime following the withdrawal of US military from the country.
