Bangladesh urge Canada to extend duty-free import till 2030
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada Dr. Khalilur Rahman on Friday called on the Canadian government for extending the duty-free quote-free access of Bangladeshi exports_ especially RMG products to the Canadian market until 2030.
He made the remarks at a virtual discussion arranged by Bangabandhu Center for Bangladesh Studies in Canada (BCBS) in collaboration with Bangladesh High Commission in Canada on women empowerment_ said a press release.
"It would be a huge contribution by Canada to continuing women's economic empowerment as around 85% of RMG workers in the RMG sector in Bangladesh are women_" he said in his speech.
The envoy also highlighted the role Bangladesh and Canada have been playing in promoting women's empowerment_ peace and security.
The seminar titled 'Women_ Security and Peacebuilding: A 21st Century Perspective' was attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam MP as a panel speaker.
Panellists of the seminar applauded Bangladesh's role in the adoption of UN resolution 1325_ its national implementation along the related SDGs to empower women and engage them in peacekeeping.
They also noted implementing gender quotas can help increase women's representation in peace-building missions.
