Nepalese aircraft crashes at Kathmandu with 19 people aboard

An aircraft of Nepal's Saurya Airlines with 19 people on board, including the crew, has crashed during takeoff for Pokhara from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, media reported on Wednesday.

The Pokhara-bound plane crashed at around 11 a.m. (local time, 05:15 GMT), The Kathmandu Post reported.

Sources said that the plane caught fire upon impact, but the blaze was quickly extinguished by emergency responders. At least five passengers have died and the pilot was transported to a nearby hospital, PTI reported. No further details regarding the pilot's condition have been released.

Rescue operations are currently underway, with police and firefighters working at the scene.
