Bangladesh's remittance hits new record, $2.64bn got in December

Bangladeshi Expatriates sent home a record $2.64 billion as remittances in the last month of 2024, which was around 32% higher than the corresponding month of the previous year.

The country received around $2 billion of remittance in December, 2023.

With the latest addition, the year-on-year growth in receiving remittances stood at 27.56% for the first six months, July to December, of the current fiscal year (FY 2024-25) as the country received $13.78 billion in total during the period.

In the first six month of last fiscal, it was $10.80 billion.

A senior official of the Bangladesh Bank mentioned that the flow of remittances into the country shows upward trend as the government has taken measures to streamline the legal channel for encouraging non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to send money to the country.
