Bangladesh to get 4th & 5th disbursements of IMF loan combinedly

The board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to combine the fourth and the fifth disbursements together to Bangladesh out of its $4.7bn loan.

“The disbursement will be made in June after satisfactory completion of the review scheduled in April and approval by the IMF Board in June 2025,” said a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance yesterday.

It said the IMF approved a loan to the tune of $4.7 billion in 2023, against which Bangladesh has already received three installments amounting to $2.3 billion.

The installments are disbursed upon fulfillment of conditions that have been mutually agreed by the government of Bangladesh and the IMF to strengthen the foundation of the economy.

It said budget support programmes are associated with the implementation of conditions some of which require time.

“Hence it was mutually decided that the two disbursements scheduled in FY2024-25 would be combined. Therefore, the IMF agreed to combine the fourth and the fifth disbursements together,” said the press release.
