Iraq donates 10 million liters of fuel to Gaza hospitals
Iraq has donated 10 million liters of fuel to power generators of hospitals in the war-hit Gaza Strip amid an Israeli military assault on the Palestinian territory.
A statement by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said the move “aims to assuage the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”
The statement, however, did not specify a date for the fuel shipments or how they would be allowed into the blockaded territory.
Israel refuses any fuel shipments into the Gaza Strip until hostages held by Hamas are released.
Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7.
At least 10,328 Palestinians, including 4,237 children and 2,719 women, have been killed since then. The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.
Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.
