Bangladesh's import-export operations accelerate in sea ports, land ports
The import and export operations in Bangladesh alongside customs procedures have gained momentum at all seaports and land ports of the country after the mayhem centering over the recent quota movement and subsequently disruption of internet facilities.
But, with the improvement of situation including law and order condition in the country alongside restoration of broadband internet services, import and export operations and customs procedures at Chattogram Port, Mongla Port and Benapole land port have started to come to a normalcy much to the growing volume of loading and unloading of goods.
Officials concerned said that hundreds of covered vans, trucks and trailers entered Chattogram port over the last few days and thus carrying unloaded goods to various parts of the country. Such situation was also seen at the Mongla Port and the country's major land port in Benapole.
Chattogram Custom House Commissioner Mohammad Faizur Rahman told that operations at the major sea port is now going on in full swing like in the usual time while the workload is higher even in some cases.
"The overall import and export operations have come to a normalcy like delivery and shipment of goods. The customs officials attended office last Friday and Saturday to recoup the losses due to the disruption of internet services. The port officials are now much more active than the past," he added.
Benapole Land port director Rezaul Karim told that the import and export operations at the land port has also become normal with the entire operations going through automated method.
The customs operations at the sea ports and land ports almost come to a halt after the shutdown of internet facilities on July 18 night. Then customs procedures were done in a limited scale manually at the Benapole Port for unloading of perishable items. The delivery of containers at Chattogram port is gradually increasing while hundreds of good-laden trucks are also entering Bangladesh through the Benapole port, officials told.
