Payra power plant resumes production after 2 weeks

The first unit of the Payra 1,320MW Thermal Power Plant in Patuakhali has resumed electricity production after a 14-days of suspension.

The matter was confirmed Shah Moni Ziko, assistant manager (Investigation) of the power plant on Tuesday.

Production from the first unit began on Monday evening following approval from the Power Development Board (PDB).

“We resumed operations after receiving clearance from the PDB. Earlier, production was halted as per their instructions. Maintenance work on the second unit is progressing rapidly, and we anticipate restarting its electricity generation in the first or second week of January,” said Shah Moni Ziko.

Earlier, on December 16, the plant halted operations under PDB's directive to establish a transmission line for the adjacent Payra 1,320MW power plant. While the first unit is now operational, electricity generation from the second unit remains on hold due to ongoing maintenance.
