Bangladesh receives $1.68bn in remittance in 25 days

Expatriate Bangladeshis sent over $1.68 billion in remittance during the first 25 days of January in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Of this, remittances through state-owned and specialised banks accounted for $428.65 million while private banks received $1,242.53 million, according to Bangladesh Bank (BB) data released yesterday.

Six state-owned commercial banks-- Agrani, Janata, Rupali, Sonali, Basic and BDBL-- received $354.28 million while one state-owned specialized bank-- Bangladesh Krishi Bank-- received $74.37 million.

Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $109.01 million, Janata Bank $68.96 million, Rupali Bank $90.04 million, Sonali Bank $86.20 million and Basic Bank received $0.08 million.

The highest $229.01 million in remittance came to the country through Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd.
